Eisenia hortensis
European Nightcrawlers are quickly becoming quite popular in the United States. European Nightcrawlers average 1 1/2 – 2 1/4″ in length and they are the diameter of an old wooden matchstick. They are a warm weather worm that does not require refrigeration but they can tolerate temperature extremes better than Canadian Nightcrawlers. They are excellent for pan fishing and trout and are a great composting worms. Worms will multiply in 2-3 months in most compost piles.
