Davao Oriental fishing boat mishap fatalities now 2 –PCG

Another fatality was reported in the accident involving a fishing boat in Davao Oriental, bringing the death toll to two, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Friday.

In an update, PCG said the crew of L/B Obet 3 retrieved a cadaver that was identified as one of the missing crew of fishing boat Genesis 2.

Seven crew members are still missing, according to the PCG.

On Thursday, fishing boat captain Allan Donaire said they encountered a sudden change in sea condition at around 12 midnight causing half of their fishing boat to submerge at around 1 a.m.

Of the 23 crew onboard, 14 were rescued after BRP Tubbataha (MRRV-4401) responded to the incident and other fishing boats conducted search and rescue operations in the area.

The concerned fishing company also deployed its fleet to augment the search and rescue operations, the PCG said.  —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
