Algoma Fish and Game Club invites those 14 and under for a day of activities at Kinsmen Park Pond on Sunday, Oct. 1
The Algoma Fish and Game Club is inviting local kids and their families for a free day of activities at the fourth annual Fall Kids Fishing Day.
The non-profit organization will host future outdoor enthusiasts age 14 and under for a day of activities at Kinsmen Park Pond on Sunday, Oct. 1, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Kids need to bring a parent or guardian to register them onsite and “get lots of pictures” while they learn to fish or learn archery, the club said in a release.
The youngsters can choose to release their catch or take it home for dinner.
The day will offer an introduction to fishing for kids as well as an introduction to fish cleaning, catch and release or keeping fish.
Archery will be taught by members of the Sault North Archery Club.
Sault Search and Rescue will be teaching compass orientation, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry will teach the young people about conservation.
All of the equipment will be available for use at the event, the club said, “so you don’t need to pack anything”. Fishing rods and bait will be provided, the club said.
There will also be food available for purchase.
Parking will be limited at the pond for accessibility purposes only, the club notes. It said families are asked to park at the top of the hill and “enjoy a nice hike down to the pond”.
